Sports Stadia Management Board (SSMB) is currently participating in the realization of some of the Vision 2030 flagship projects namely International Sports Academy and Regional Stadia. This is being done in partnership with other stakeholders such as the Department of Sports, Local Authorities and the Ministry of Public Works, with each one playing a separate/distinct and complementary role.
Other interested stakeholders have also sought our engagement in development of their sporting and recreation facilities. They include Local Authorities and organizations such as Mumias Sugar Company.
SSMB has earmarked a number of projects in the process of developing and upgrading its facilities. The projects include
- International Sports Academy
This will be based at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani as cited in the development master plan. Requests for EOI have undergone the relevant technical evaluation and passed on to the tender committee for the final determination of the way forward. The award of preliminary works is awaiting transfer of funds in due course by the Treasury to SSMB.
These will serve as talent identification and nurturing centres for different regions that will subsequently feed the national level. They will benefit mass sport as well as high performance sport.
- Regional Stadia
Regional stadia initially targeted this financial year are Mombasa Municipal Stadium and Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret. Baseline data collection has been finalized and the relevant conceptual drawings are currently being developed by the partnering Ministry of Public Work.
Others include;
- Golf Course
- Motor cross circuit
- Safer Neighborhoods’ program
