Annual AK Gala
Eldoret will host the fourth edition of the Athletics Kenya (AK) Golden Gala Night awards moving it away from the capital city Nairobi that hosted the previous editions.
The gala will be held on the 28thof November.
For the first time, the Gala will be the climax of the second edition of a three day athletes’ seminar which is set to start on November 26. During the ceremony, the Riadha house federation will fete top performing athletes for the calendar year.
AK president Isaiah Kiplagat said doping, property management, investments, sponsorships, insurance, and asset management, legal issue on contracts and agents, retirement benefits will be among the key topics to be discussed during the seminar.
“People are asking why we are moving The Gala from Nairobi. The reasoning is simple; we intend to make the seminar special and memorable. Again we want to rotate the Gala in many more counties and regions.”He said.
The federation has set aside a budget of Sh15million to hold the second edition of the annual athletes’ seminar and the gala event.
Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and UAP insurance are some of the sponsors who came on board on Thursday to support the awaiting events.
UAP have already given out Sh500, 000 while KCB and the rest of other sponsors will give out their donations in the coming weeks.
“The theme of the seminar and gala will be ‘Our Country Our Champion’,” said Kiplagat adding that the occasion will be used to commemorate Kenya’s 50 years Jubilee Celebrations.
According to Kiplagat, the seminar and gala that have now been joined together will be rotated in different counties every year.
“We have already invited Governors from Bungoma, Eldoret, Kitale, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, Machakos and Nyeri to attend the seminar and gala to asses and bid for future hosting,” said Kiplagat.
“Mutua has been doing great in Machakos even building the Machakos stadium which will be among the venues for the CECAFA Senior Challenge tournament. Maybe next year we can hold our Gala there.” he concluded.
